This is a photo I took yesterday of my next book and some notes scribbled on it as I work through the comments from my beta readers as well as make some of my own changes. I hope to have the novel out within the next month or two.
I’m taking it slow because I want to put forth the best book I possibly can. No AI writing from me and there never will be. The loathing I have for any able-bodied person who writes anything via AI can’t even be expressed, and I’m so glad I’m out of teaching and don’t have to battle this nonsense in the classroom.
Writing is hard, yes. Anything worth doing is hard. Heck, getting through each day is often quite hard. I’ve never been a fan of taking the easy way out, so even if I weren’t a writer and passionate about writing, I would still look down upon anyone who uses AI to write something — especially when they publish that piece of writing for money.
Do your own damn work, people.
Anyway, that’s my short rant about something that is being discussed and debated all over the internet and in the news, etc., right now.
Here’s my promise to you: I, and I alone, write my books and everything else I write.
Anything you like about my writing comes straight from me, and I will gladly take your compliments about it. Anything you don’t like also comes from me, and I will listen to your criticism and opinion because you are entitled to your opinion, but I won’t change the way I write because it’s the way I, a thinking and real human being, write. If you find a mistake in my writing, I think I’ll celebrate it because it is a mark of a flawed human who makes mistakes like all humans do.
The past couple of weeks, I’ve conducted a number of in-person interviews for feature stories for the newspaper, and I have enjoyed doing those interviews and writing the stories. I can’t even imagine, nor do I really want to imagine, how an AI could go talk to the people who I spoke to, take photos of them, and then take all the information and create a meaningful and heartfelt piece about those people.
Let’s never forget that the A stands for “artificial.” What are other words for “artificial?” Hmmm, where to begin? Fake, phony, sham, bogus, unnatural, false, pretended, imitation, etc. Not a one of these has a positive connotation.
Don’t even get me started on the “intelligence” part of if. Please. There’s no “intelligence” where there’s no “thinking,” and nothing artificial can think or create or make or do what only humans can.
Guess I wasn’t quite done ranting. Sorry. Mmm, not sorry.
Two of my feature stories made the front page, and I will share the most recent beyond the paywall with paying subscribers. I promise that I’m working on the final edits to book number six (see above photo for proof), and I hope to share a good chunk next week with paying subscribers, so if you aren’t yet one, please consider becoming one. Help this real human subsist off the hard work that she, and she alone, puts into her writing. Thanks.
